Carpentry and Joinery is a skilled trade and a craft in which the primary work performed is the cutting, shaping, and installation of materials made from wood and wood products.
The program has two main components joinery and carpentry. Joinery is a part of woodworking that involves joining pieces of wood, engineered wood, or synthetic substitutes (such as laminate), to produce more complex items. On the other hand carpentry is the part of woodworking that involves the cutting and joining of wood in order to construct buildings or other structures.
This carpentry and joinery program is a hands on program that will provide you with the skills required in designing, cutting, and building of furniture using different types of wood.

By enrolling for this Carpentry and Joinery Certificate program you will get an opportunity to learn how to use the various woodworking hand tools such as squares, levels, and chisels, as well as many power tools, such as sanders, circular saws, nail guns, and welding machines.
As a graduate of this carpentry and joinery program you will be able to install doors, floors and furniture in buildings, renovating or refitting existing structures, building sets for film and theater companies and much more.

Upon graduating, carpentry and woodworking students will be able to do the following:

  • Follow blueprints and building plans to meet the needs of clients
  • Install structures and fixtures, such as windows and molding
  • Measure, cut, and shape wood, plastic, and other materials
  • Construct building frameworks, including walls, floors, and door frames
  • Erect, level, and install building framework with the aid of rigging hardware and cranes
  • Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures
  • Instruct and direct laborers and other construction helpers
