About Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse (KRCHN)

Nursing, as an integral part of the health care system, it encompasses the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and care of physically ill, mentally ill, and disabled people of all ages, in all health care and other community settings.

This Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse (KRCHN) programme is designed to equip trainees with the right competence in knowledge, skills and attitude in becoming an all round and competent nurse who is able to deliver quality and safe nursing interventions.

The training takes 3  years which includes both theoretical experience and clinical practice.

The Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN) course is a combination of three major areas of nurse training, namely; General Nursing, Community Health nursing and Midwifery. At the end of the training, the graduate will be a qualified clinical nurse, community nurse and also a midwife.

Beyond the time-honored reputation for compassion and dedication lies a highly specialized profession, which is constantly evolving to address the needs of society. From ensuring the most accurate diagnoses to the ongoing education of the public about critical health issues; nurses are indispensable in safeguarding public health.

Nurses and midwives are central to Primary Health Care and are often the first and sometimes the only health professional that people see and the quality of their initial assessment, care and treatment is vital. Nurses are also part of their local community - sharing its culture, strengths and vulnerabilities - and can shape and deliver effective interventions to meet the needs of patients, families and communities.

A registered community health nurse is diverse and dynamic with the ability to work in different fields of healthcare utilising current medical technology and equipment, globally.

There are many specialized areas you can pursue after the diploma course, for example paediatric, renal, ophthalmic, ICU, midwifery, theatre nursing, among others. You can also progress to a degree, master and even PhD.

Modern nursing was established by Florence Nightingale, a British nurse. She established St. Thomas Hospital and the Nightingale Training School for Nurses in 1860. Her efforts to reform healthcare has greatly influenced nursing as a profession up to date. If by nature you are compassionate, empathetic and of high integrity like Florence Nightingale, then nursing is the course for you.
The demand for nurses is very far from being satisfied in Kenya and the world over. Do not hesitate to join this noble profession.
