This Apparel Technology (Fashion Design) course is a Certificate program accredited by NITA.
Fashion designers (apparel technologists) plan and develop new clothing and accessory styles by creating original designs or by adapting fashions to suit local conditions and trends. They fabricate sample garments based on these designs.
This Craft Certificate in Apparel Technology program aims at producing competent fashion designers/tailors/dressmakers capable of making various types of garments suitable for men, women, and children. Students will also be taught the essential communication and business skills necessary to build a successful business and begin developing the kind of portfolio that will lead to future career opportunities.
The program gives students an opportunity to explore the exciting world of design and begin to understand the background and knowledge needed to develop a career in this field.
Students of this Apparel Technology (Fashion design) program gain adequate knowledge in:
- Textile pattern design (by hand and digital methods);
- Development of knitted, woven, and printed fabrics;
- Embroidery, beading and other surface ornamentation techniques;
- Computer-Aided Design (CAD) for textile design,
- Development and production;
- Trend and market research;
- Color theory;
- Fiber science;
- Dyeing and color chemistry.
