About Certificate in Fitter General
Fitters (General) fit and assemble metal parts and subassemblies to fabricate production machines and other equipment. This Fitter General Craft Certificate Course is designed to equip the trainee with the requisite knowledge in the assembly and fitting of machine parts and industrial equipment. It prepares graduates to be engineering specialists who install, maintain, and repair machines, plants, and equipment for a large variety of industries such as manufacturing, aeronautical, maritime, mining, food processing, and packaging industries.
Fitters must be able to work well with their hands and understand the complexities of their area of work. Their common tasks include:
- Using and maintaining specialised machines and tools
- Assembling components so they are ready for installation
- Reading and interpreting project plans
- Coordinating with the labour crew for efficient installations
- Performing MIG, TIG, and other types of welding methods depending on the project
- Finding and fixing faults in pipework
- Carrying out planned maintenance checks
- Responding to emergency calls
- Conserving resources wherever possible to ensure budgetary integrity and client satisfaction
There are different types of Fitters including general Fitters, Mechanical Fitters, Maintenance Fitters, and Fitters and Turners.

- KCSE, Mean Grade D- (Minus) or equivalent
