Overview of HIV Testing and Counseling
This HIV Testing and Counseling program is a Diploma program accredited by KNEC.
About Diploma in HIV Testing and Counseling
HIV Counseling and Testing (HCT) is an HIV prevention aspect that allows individuals to learn their HIV status through a non-clinical rapid HIV test.
HCT can be provided through stand-alone clinics or offered through community-based approaches. HCT is designed to motivate individuals to know their status and encourage others to do the same.
HCT explores options for changing behaviors in order to prevent the acquisition and transmission of HIV, reduce anxiety over possible infection, facilitate safe disclosure of status, future planning, and improve access to HIV prevention and treatment services.
This is a training program to improve the quality of HIV counselling and to ensure the accuracy of HIV test results.
Knowing one’s HIV status is critical to the achievement of prevention and treatment goals, making HIV Counselling and Testing the gateway to a complete continuum of care. The Government has embarked on a deliberate effort to scale up and strengthen the quality of HIV Testing Services at all public health facilities and non-health sites offering this service, and over the years, testing and counselling has improved and has progressively become more available and acceptable to our people.
