The Nursing Council of Kenya has authorized the three-year Kenya Registered Nurse (KRN) Diploma program. The curriculum equips first-level hospital-based nurses with the skills necessary to function effectively in an acute healthcare environment.

The Kenya Registered Nurse program will teach you the skills necessary to expertly treat wounds, give medication, perform routine medical examinations, record thorough medical histories, monitor heart rate and blood pressure, carry out diagnostic tests, use medical equipment, take blood samples, and admit and discharge patients in accordance with doctor's orders.

Additionally, you will learn how to change bandages, make sure patients are comfortable, notify other nurses or medical professionals of any changes in a patient's condition, record patient activities, and do other necessary duties.

Your career as a nurse will be well-founded by the curriculum, which is designed to incorporate nursing, biological, behavioral, and social science subjects.

Typical duties of a Kenya Registered Nurse include:

  • Planning and delivering patients’ care.
  • Monitoring patients’ progress.
  • Taking samples, pulses, temperatures and blood pressures.
  • Monitoring and administering medication.
  • Writing records.
  • Supervising junior staff.
  • Organising workloads.
  • Providing emotional support to patients and relatives.
  • Tutoring student nurses.
  • Advising patients and relatives on health-related issues.
